You do. Level 2 chargers run on a 240-volt circuit, and Colorado requires a permit and inspection for that new circuit. Your panel also needs enough capacity to handle the extra load.
Cold temperatures slow down battery charging and reduce driving range. A Level 2 charger in a garage helps because it charges faster and lets you warm the car while it’s plugged in. Parking inside also protects the charger and cord from snow and ice.
Most hot tubs require a dedicated 240-volt circuit with ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection. Code also calls for a disconnect within sight of the tub and at least 5 feet away from it. Make sure your panel has room for that circuit before the tub arrives.
First comes the fun part: planning where you want outlets, lights, and switches. From there, your electrician pulls a permit and runs the wiring during rough-in, and an inspector signs off before the drywall goes up. After the walls come together, fixtures and devices go in, and a final inspection wraps everything up.
Late spring through early fall works best for anything outside. The ground stays soft enough for trenching, and crews can reach your home without fighting snow. Booking ahead of fall helps you finish before the first hard freeze.
